Studio portrait of S4624 Stoker Richard Charles Mogler, HMAS Cerberus, of Bexley, NSW. He was a milkman prior to enlisting on 26 September 1940. Stoker Mogler trained at HMAS Rushcutter and HMAS Cerberus until January 1941. From February to June 1941 he was attached to the naval depot HMAS Penguin, and the converted ferry HMAS Kuttabul while awaiting assignment to a ship. He became a crew member of HMAS Sydney in July 1941. On 20 November 1941 all 645 personnel onboard HMAS Sydney were lost following an engagement with the German cruiser Kormoran off the coast of Western Australia. Stoker Mogler was 20 years of age.
