8811 Driver (Dvr) John Oliver Baird, 4th Australian Motor Transport Company and two unidentified soldiers in a Thornycroft lorry, serial number 51898. A kookaburra (probably a company emblem) is also painted on the side on the truck. A butcher of Truro, SA, prior to enlistment, Dvr Baird embarked initially with service number 5953 and with the 4th Light Horse Brigade Train. He later transferred to the 14th Company AASC and then 20th Company AASC, then K Supply Column before being transferred as a driver with the Motor Transport Company in late 1917. His service number changed at that point to 8811. On 7 October 1918 he was promoted to Lance Corporal. L Cpl Baird left England for return to Australia in July 1919.
