Pre-enlistment studio portrait of George Russell Tester of Clarendon, SA. A horse driver in civilian life, he enlisted on 23 August 1915. 4284 Private Tester embarked with the 10th Battalion from Adelaide aboard HMAT Borda on 11 January 1916. Later transferring to the 4th Pioneer Battalion (4284A), Pte Tester died of wounds received in action at the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Belgium on 2 June 1917, aged 33, and was buried at Trois-Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck.
