Street scene with burnt-out courthouse, Gleno
"...I had no idea that the infrastructure was just so completely wrecked and that there's a lot of work to be done there. ... I was expecting that there would still be some of the damage of the post-occupation stuff that happened as Indonesia was pulling out, that a lot of damage was done and there's some very very real trauma that took place there which is...harrowing when you hear about some of the things that took place. But what I hadn't really accounted for was that ten years later there's still so much visibility of this wrecked infrastructure. That public building after public building...still stands as a burnt out shell...I found that to be quite a shock." Jon Cattapan, AWM interview 8 August 2008
The burnt out courthouse that is depicted in this work is now used as a slaughterhouse.
