Heading out (Gleno)
Description
Cattapan was immediately struck by the contrast between the kitted-up Australian soldiers and the Timorese, who are slightly built and wear lighter weight clothes. This difference made it hard for the soldiers to be inconspicuous, no matter how they tried, while patrolling the towns and villages. The two soldiers in the foreground are large silhouetted forms; they appear alien, mismatched with the vibrant red outlines of the Timorese.
The image is overlaid with lines, "data dots" and "hot spots", which for Cattapan signify the deluge of information the soldiers receive in their daily briefings.
