Young, Robert Mostyn (Private, b.1915 - d.1941)
Collection relating to the Second World War service of WX2311 Private Robert Mostyn Young, 2/11 Australian Infantry Battalion, Second Australian Imperial Force, North Africa and Greece, 1940-1941.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of three letters from Private Young to members of his family, dated between 10 December 1940 and 7 May 1941. These letters were written by Private Young while he was serving with 2/11 Australian Infantry Battalion in North Africa and Greece. In his letters, Private Young writes about receiving mail from home, having leave in Alexandria, hearing news about the war, experiencing air raids, meeting old friends, serving at Bardia, Tobruk and Derna, playing football, serving in Greece, his pack being blown up, being bombed during their evacuation from Greece, and resting at Crete.
Private Robert Mostyn Young enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force on 25 April 1940. He served with 2/11 Australian Infantry Battalion in Egypt, Libya, and Greece, and was killed in action at Crete on 28 May 1941. Private Young is commemorated at the Athens Memorial, Greece.
