Studio pre-war enlistment portrait of 3446 Private (Pte) George Bardon, 47th Battalion, of Cairns, Qld. A farmer prior to enlistment he embarked with the 9th Reinforcements on HMAT Ayrshire (A33) on 24 January 1917. Pte Bardon later transfered to the 48th Battalion, then was admitted to King George V Hospital in Dublin on 8 August suffering from symptoms of Pneumonia and later died on 13 October 1918; he was 26 years of age.
