Studio portrait of 4783 Private (Pte) James Ross Duperouzel, 11th Battalion, of Qualen, WA. A shearer prior to enlisting on 31 December 1915, Pte Duperouzel embarked from Fremantle with the 15th Reinforcements on board HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 1 April 1916. The Reinforcements arrived in Egypt on 25 April 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in June. In July Pte Duperouzel was transferred to the 51st Battalion. He was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, Pozieres, France, during the 51st Battalion's first major battle on the Western Front. His exact date of death is unknown; his service record states he died between 14 and 16 August 1916 and that he has no known grave. Private Duperouzel was 19 years of age.
