Studio portrait of 4908 Private (Pte) Clarence Hallard Page, 27th Battalion, of Kadina, SA. A telegraphist prior to enlisting in March 1915, he embarked from Adelaide with the 27th Battalion on board HMAT Geelong (A2) on 31 May 1915. They arrived in Alexandria, Egypt, in September 1915 and were sent as reinforcements to Gallipoli. Pte Page was hospitalised in Egypt with frost bite and influenza on 27 November 1915. He was discharged from hospital in January 1916. Pte Page arrived in France on 21 March 1916 and it was, possibly, at this time that he was transferred to the 2nd Divisional Signal Company and promoted to Temporary Lance Corporal. In May 1916 he was promoted to full Corporal. Cpl Page was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 14 October 1916. He was 21 years of age.
