Returned veteran, 3705 Bombardier (Bdr) Laurence Oliver Bryant who had just stepped from the train which has brought him home to Stanhope on 14 October 1918. He carries a wreath of laurel flowers which had been presented by Mrs Taylor of Bonshaw. On the platform behind him are people who have come to welcome him home, including his father, Bernard Bryant, who holds his hat in his hand. Bdr Bryant was assessed as medically unfit due to an incurable heart condition, possibly caused by exposure to gas during his military service. The stripes on the forearm of his right sleeve, denote years of service. Laurence Bryant departed from England in August 1918, arriving in Australia on 11 October. Bdr Bryant died at Kyabram on 27 October 1918 aged 22 years.
