Studio portrait of 814 Private Joseph Roy Richards who enlisted in the 1st AIF in 1914, serving in the 7th Battalion. A sailor prior to enlistment, he embarked on 19 October 1914 aboard HMAT Hororata (A20). He was later promoted to the rank of Corporal. He died of wounds on 20 August 1916 and is buried in the Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension.
