Horses from the Desert Mounted Corps at Beersheba drinking from portable canvas water troughs. Photograph is inscribed on reverse: "Big watering day at Beersheba, Palestine - many of these horses had not a drink for a big number of hours untill [sic] they took Beersheba. The pumping engine on the right was blown up by the retreating enemy". This image is from the collection of 2599 Trooper John McGrogan Esler, and relates to his service during the First World War with the 2nd Australian Remount Unit.
