Group portrait of members of a NSW Field Artillery unit. Identified is Sergeant Ernest Samuel Brown (seated on bench, 4th from the left). A professional soldier, Captain Adjutant Brown embarked from Sydney with the 3rd Battalion on HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. Brown was promoted to Major in January 1915 and Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) in May 1915 whilst serving at Gallipoli. Lt Col Brown was killed in action on 6 August 1915 at Lone Pine.
