Studio portrait of NX34378 Private (Pte) George Chippendale, 2/18th Battalion, of North Rothbury, NSW. He enlisted at Paddington, NSW on 17 June 1940. Pte Chippendale was captured and taken Prisoner of War (POW), he was presumed dead at sea on 12 September 1944, aged 26. He was among 2,200 POW's lost when the Rakuyo Maru was sunk by the USS Submarine Pampanito. Pte Chippendale name is recorded on the Labuan Memorial, Malaysia.
