Pte Carson was 32 years of age. On the back of the photograph is written: "February 23 1917 Dear Stan, this is the photo of your dear brother George, who so nobly gave his life for his king and country. When you look upon his noble face Stan, you will think of the noble sacrifice he made. ' A brave hero at rest.' "
