Studio portrait of 1835 (later 1835A) Private (Pte) Cyril James Glenn, 43rd Battalion, Terowie, SA. An engine cleaner with the South Australian Railways prior to enlisting in May 1916, Pte Glenn embarked from Adelaide with the 2nd Reinforcements on board HMAT Ballarat (A70) on 12 August 1916. Upon arrival in England they undertook further training and in November 1916, Pte Glenn was transferred to the 35th Battalion. He then proceeded to France with his unit for service on the Western Front. Pte Glenn was killed in action at Messines Ridge, Belgium, on 7 June 1917. He was 19 years of age.
