Studio portrait of 5619 Private (Pte) George Travis Lees, grocer, of Donald, Victoria. He enlisted in the 24th Battalion on 21 March 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire on 25 September 1916 for Plymouth, England before joining his battalion in France on 14 December 1916. Pte Lees was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 21 September 1917. He was aged 37 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War. The poster is held at P08261.001.
