Studio portrait of 27615 Private (Pte) Charles Gordon Boswell, farmer, of Donald, Victoria. He enlisted in the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade (3 FAB) on 5 May 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Borda on 20 October 1916 for Plymouth, England. After training in England he proceeded to France and was taken on strength of his unit on 20 April 1917. As the result of an injury on 15 September 1917, Pte Boswell was hospitalised in Boulogne and Rouen before rejoining his unit on 17 December 1917. Pte Boswell was wounded in action on 14 September 1918 and died of these wounds later that day in 3 FAB, Advanced Dressing Station. He was aged 28 years.
