Studio portrait of 840 Private (Pte) Arthur Joseph Lovett, carter, of Callawadda via Stawell, Victoria. He enlisted as a driver in the 3rd Light Horse Field Ambulance on 10 September 1914 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Chilka for Egypt. He served in Gallipoli from 30 October 1915 until his unit was withdrawn to Alexandria in December 1915. The unit relocated to England and then to France in August 1916. Pte Lovett was transferred to the 6th Field Ambulance on 29 September 1916 and attached to the 7th Field Company Engineers. Pte Lovett was killed in action on 8 January 1917 near Guillemont, France. He was aged 23 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War.
