Studio portrait of 2246 Private (Pte) Norman Lester Rodgers, shop assistant, of Donald, Victoria. He enlisted in the 21st Battalion on 17 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata on 27 September 1915 for Egypt. He was hospitalised due to illness in January 1917 and rejoined his unit in early February. The battalion sailed for France and the Western Front in late March 1916. Private Rodgers was killed in action near Albert, France, on 26 August 1916. He has no known grave and his death is recorded on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 20 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War.
