Studio portrait in civilian clothing of 6407 Private (Pte) David McCooke, of Carron, Victoria. He enlisted in the 8th Battalion on 21 August 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripides on 11 September 1916 for Plymouth, England. He joined his battalion on the Western Front in France on 24 December 1916. On 24 April 1917 he was wounded in action near Rouen and evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence before rejoining his unit on 9 September 1917. Pte McCooke was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 20 September 1917. He was aged 19 years.
