Description

Studio portrait of 14 Private (Pte) Thorold Alfred Bath, farmer, of Traynors Lagoon, Victoria. He enlisted in the 10th Machine Gun Company on 15 March 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ascanius on 27 May 1916 for Devonport, England. The unit deployed to the Western Front, France, on 22 November 1916. Pte Bath was wounded in action near Armentieres on 24 December 1916 and died of these wounds the same day. He was aged 20 years. This image is one from a poster produced at Donald, Victoria, commemorating the deaths of soldiers associated with Donald and surrounding district during the First World War. The poster is held at P08261.001.
