Description

Studio portrait of army chaplain NX141236 (N278654) Captain Martin Herbert Winkler and Gladys Eileen Moll on their wedding day. Sisters Gladys and Ruth Moll (left) had pooled their ration tickets and resources, and were able to buy a wedding dress they both felt suitable for their respective wedding days. Ruth wore the dress in December 1943 when she married Lieutenant Bert Schmidt, her wedding day fixed in late November when Bert's leave was confirmed. Captain Winkler was the first Lutheran chaplain in the AIF.
