Studio portrait of 5970 Private Lewis Richard Wallace Anderson, 13th Battalion, of Auburn, NSW. A seaman fitter's mate prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 22 August 1916. Pte Anderson was killed in action near the Gueudecourt Sector, Somme, France on 4 February 1917, aged 25. His body was never found and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
