Studio portrait of 244 Private (later Corporal) Gilbert Goldie Anschau, 3rd Battalion, of Parramatta, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. Corporal Anschau was killed in action near Bullecourt, France on 5 May 1917, aged 29. His body was never found and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
