Studio portrait of 5331 Private Arthur Thomas Banks, 4th (later 56th) Battalion, of Gosford, NSW. A cabinet maker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 14 April 1916. Pte Banks was killed in action, in France, on 1st November 1916, aged 25. His body was never found and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
