Studio portrait of 3119 Private Sydney Colbert, 45th Battalion of Parramatta, NSW. A grocer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Beltana (A72) on 25 November 1916. Pte Colbert was killed in action on 13 October 1917 at, Broodseinde Ridge near Passchendaele, Belgium, aged 19. He was buried on the ridge but post war his grave was not found and he is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
