Studio portrait of Lieutenant Francis Henry Haylen, 2nd Battalion of Penrith, NSW. A clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the SS Port Nicholson on 8 November 1916. He was killed in action at Glencorse Wood, Belgium on 21 September 1917, aged 25. Post war, his body was not recovered for burial. He is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
