Studio portrait of 6516 Private Ernest Frederick Hearne, 2nd Battalion of Granville, NSW. A navvy prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. He was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium on 1 November 1917, aged 20. He is buried in the Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Belgium.
