Description
Studio portrait of 418A Private Henry John, 9th Machine Gun Company (later 23rd Company Australian Machine Gun Corps) of North Parramatta, NSW. A machinist prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 26 October 1916. He was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium during the Third Battle of Ypres, on 12 October 1917, aged 26. He is buried at in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Passchendaele, Belgium.
