Studio portrait of 161 Private William George Marshall, 3rd Battalion of Parramatta, NSW. A police constable prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Euripides (A14) on 20 October 1914. He was killed in action on 27 April 1915 at the Dardanelles, Gallipoli, Turkey, aged 32. He was buried at Bridges Hill, Gallipoli. Post war, his body was not found and he is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey.
