Studio portrait of 201 Private Frederick Cecil Swain, 15th Battalion of Wingham, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard the HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 22 December 1914. He was killed in action on 19 May 1915 at Gallipoli, Turkey, aged 20. Post war his body was not recovered and he is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey.
