Studio portrait of 1650 Private Walter Armitage, 3rd Battalion of Granville, NSW. A pattern maker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Seang Choon (A49) on 11 February 1915. He was killed in action on 7 August 1915 at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, Turkey, aged 27. Post war his body was not located and he is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial, Turkey.
