Studio portrait of 1897 Private Francis Ellison Dare, 55th Battalion of Granville, NSW. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT Barambah (A37) on 23 June 1916. He transferred to the 18th Battalion and was killed in action on 3 May 1917 during the second battle of Bullecourt, France, aged 25. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
