Description

Studio portrait of 406 Private Thomas Verran Hammond, 2nd Battalion of Clyde, NSW. A riveter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suffolk (A 23) on 18 October 1914. He was wounded in action at Gallipoli on 11 June 1915 and transferred to hospital in Malta where he died on 24 July 1915, aged 22. He is buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
