Studio portrait of 393 Private John James Melehan, 20th Battalion of Granville, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Berrima (A35) on 25 June 1915. He was killed in action near Clery-Sur-Somme, France, on 31 August 1918, aged 31. He is buried in the Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
