Studio portrait of 2959 Private Arthur Edward Perkins, 57th Battalion of Clyde, NSW. An ironworker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Afric (A19) on 3 November 1916. He was killed in action on 12 May 1917, aged 22, at Bullecourt, France when an high explosive shell landed in the trench alongside him. He was buried not far from where he died. Post war, his grave was not located and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
