Studio portrait of 2802 Private David Rowland 20th (later 56th) Battalion of Granville, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2 November 1915. He was wounded in action at Polygon Wood, Belgium on 26 September 1917 and died later that day at the 17th Casualty Clearing Station, Belgium, aged 23. He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
