Studio portrait of 1261 Private George William Smith, 18th Battalion of Sefton Park via Lidcombe, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 June 1915. He was killed in action at Pozieres, France on 4 August 1916, aged 41. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
