Studio portrait of 2102 Private Herbert Aiken, 19th Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A carter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Argyllshire (A8) on 30 September 1915. He was wounded in action and died of his wounds on 29 May 1916 in the Fleurbaix Sector, France, aged 25. He is buried in the Brewery Orchard Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, France.
