Studio portrait of 13191 Driver (later Corporal) George Richard Arthur Bell, 1, 2 and 3 Auxiliary Transport Companies (later 4th Motor Transport Company Australian Army Service Corps) of Auburn, NSW. A motor engineer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Persic (A34) on 22 December 1916. He was admitted to hospital on 24 November 1918 and transferred to the 41st Stationary Hospital, France on 1 December 1918 with acute appendicitis. Cpl Bell died on 1 December 1918 from peritonitis, aged 34. He is buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France.
