Studio portrait of 168 Corporal (later Sergeant) George Henry Buffery, Siege Artillery Brigade (later 36th Australian Heavy Artillery Group) of Sydney, NSW. A boatbuilder prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Orsova (A67) on 17 July 1915. He was killed in action during the battle of Broodseinde Ridge, Belgium on 4 October 1917, aged 25. He is buried in the Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Belgium.
