Studio portrait of 1911 Private Reginald William Cracknell, 17th (later 55th) Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A railway fireman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915. He was killed in action on 17 May 1918 near Villers-Bretonneux, France, aged 24. He is buried in the Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
