Description
Studio portrait of 2147 Private George Ogilvy Divorty, 7th Light Trench Mortar (later 3rd Battalion) of Auburn, NSW. A farm hand prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 11 May 1917. He was killed in action on 3 May 1918 at Metereh, France, aged 19. He was buried 500 yards north west of Metereh, France. Post war, his grave was not located and he is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
