Studio portrait of 3454 Private John Robert Fielding, 1st Pioneer Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A dairy hand prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana (A72) on 25 November 1916. He was wounded in action on 17 October 1917 at Menin Road, Ypres, Belgium and died of his wounds on 18 October 1917 at the 10th Casualty Clearing Station, Belgium, aged 24. He is buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
