Studio portrait of 3786 Private Alexander Hicken, 3rd Battalion of Auburn, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Medic (A7) on 30 December 1915. He was killed in action near La Boiselle, France on 21 July 1916, aged 24. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
