Studio portrait of 840 Sapper Alfred Henry Marshall, 1st Australian Mining and Boring Company Australian Engineers of Leichhardt, NSW. A fireman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 20 February 1916. He died of pneumonia on 27 August 1916 at the 7th Canadian Stationary Hospital, Le Havre, France, aged 28. He is buried in the Ste Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France.
