Studio portrait of 647 Private Daniel Joseph Ryan, 19th Battalion of Botany, NSW. A stoker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 June 1915. He died on 5 November 1916, at the 38th Casualty Clearing Station, France from gunshot wounds inflicted accidently while in reserve at Manetz, France, aged 44. He is buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
