Studio portrait of 1921 Private Samuel Russell Bycroft, 4th Battalion of Lidcombe, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Kyarra (A55) on 13 April 1915. On 6 August 1915, he was killed in action at Gallipoli, Turkey, aged 29. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey.
