Studio portrait of 5563 Private Joseph Condie, 21st Battalion of West Brunswick, Vic. A railway employee prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire (A9) on 25 September 1916. On 20 March 1918, he was killed in action near Baupaume, France, aged 33. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
